In this engaging, ongoing class, students will receive an introduction to the French language and francophone culture. Each class will have a culture component in addition to speaking, reading, and writing in the target language. As the class builds and students learn to speak, read, and write in the target language, the teacher will send exercises for the students to read/complete in between the class meetings. This will help reinforce vocabulary and words learned in class. The students will be sent a vocabulary list each week and they may use this to practice in between classes. Students will be expected to engage in the target language with the teacher and other students each class. The teacher will also check-in with the students via the Outschool class message board and will be available for questions on exercises in between classes. This is a class for beginning French students, or students who have only had little exposure to the language. I am a licensed French teacher grades preK-12 and I would love to meet your student in my class! I have over 10 years teaching experience in-person and over 3 years teaching experience online with students ages 4-14.
I have lived for a year in Aix-en-Provence, France where I taught ESL in a private school. I have also traveled to Quebec, Canada 4 times with my middle school students. In the classroom for over 10 years, I have been required to teach about over 20 francophone countries as a requirement of the Virginia Standards of Learning for French. In addition, my classes always follow the National Foreign Language Association’s 5 C’s of language learning, which includes culture. In this course, students will learn about 10 different francophone countries. They will learn where they are on a map, why they speak French, and how French in used in their country.
