What's included
Homework
1 hour per week. Students will brainstorm their own words with the beginning blends. They will record their finds by writing on a paper and taking a picture, typing with the help of an adult, or recording a video with the help of an adult and uploading the words to the classroom. They will comment on other students' findings.Class Experience
US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Students will learn to read words with beginning consonant blends (two consonants at the beginning of a word that have two separate sounds we say quickly, such as trap, drop, skit, and slim). This class assumes that students already know how to read CVC (consonant vowel consonant) words with a short vowel sound, such as dad, hop, kit, and pup. Students should know the letters in the alphabet and the sound that each letter makes. We will use movement and music to teach content, and games to reinforce learning. Week #1- Students will watch a pre-recorded video introducing the topic of beginning consonant blends. We will use movement to learn blends with the letter R, including Br, cr, dr, fr, gr, pr, and tr. During the video, students will read words with the blends aloud. Each student will use the record feature in the Outschool classroom to record a video of themselves reading a few words, including words that they find on their own containing the target blend sounds. Students will also think of their own words containing these blends, and then record their words with these blends on a provided worksheet, and then upload the worksheet or type the words they found in the comments to share with the class. Later in the week students will play a game via Kahoot to practice reading words with the R blends. Week #2- Students will watch a pre-recorded video to learn blends with the letter L, including bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, and sl. Later in the week students will play a game to practice reading words with the L blends. Later in the week students will play a game via Kahoot to practice reading words with the R blends. Week #3- Students will watch a pre-recorded video, and using their knowledge of how consonant blends work they will read blends with other letters, such as sn, sm, sp, st, sw, tw. During the video, students will read words with the blends aloud. Each student will use the record feature in the Outschool classroom to record a video of themselves reading a few words, including words that they find on their own containing the target blend sounds.. Students will also think of their own words containing these blends, and then record their words with these blends on a provided worksheet, and then upload the worksheet or type the words they found in the comments to share with the class. Later in the week students will play a game via Kahoot to practice reading words with the R blends. Week #4- Students will watch a pre-recorded video to learn the 3-letter blends str, spr, spl, and squ. They will practice reading 5-letter words such as strip, sprig, and splat. We will practice all the blends we have learned. Learners will apply their knowledge of how consonants come together in blends to play a game with many different beginning blends.

I have a degree in Elementary Education from Utah State University. I taught in Elementary Schools for 4 years before choosing to stay home with my daughters, where I spend a lot of time cooking and baking.
