Class Experience
Annotating isn't just important for students while they are in school- it's an extremely valuable life skill. Whether someone is reading for fun or for an assignment, annotating helps them concentrate, which in turn allows them to absorb more information. Annotation isn't always a natural skill, though, and most students benefit from being explicitly taught how to annotate effectively. In this class, students will learn various aspects of annotation. My life has revolved around communication- both written and oral. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication with a triple minor in English, History and writing from the University of California, Davis, and have since taught English Language Arts for over five years. I have also taught specialized courses in Study Skills, just like this course right here. I have extensive training in student organization and note-taking methods, and truly believe that this skill is one that every student should explicitly be taught.
Materials will be provided to all students during and after class. It will be helpful for students to have access to a printer to print out texts prior to class. Students will need a pen or pencil and a highlighter.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
