Students will learn more about the American Girl books and historical settings. They will work on their teamwork and communication skills.
I am an elementary school Media Specialist and have facilitated many in-person escape rooms. I have also facilitated book studies that dealt with the topics discussed in the parental guidance section.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
While it will not be directly taught in the escape room, there are sensitive topics within some of the American Girl books, including race, discrimination, stereotypes, slavery, controversial representations, violence, and war. Topics will be handled sensitively if they are brought up and students will be given ample space to share their thoughts and feelings around these topics. As the teacher, I will provide historical context for their questions.
