AMC 8 Math Competition Prep Class: Grades 5 And 6

The AMC 8 Competition will be on Jan. 22, 2026.

The AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute competition for students in grade 8 and below. The material covered on the AMC 8 includes topics from a typical middle school mathematics curriculum. 

Possible topics include but are not limited to counting and probability, estimation, proportional reasoning, elementary geometry including the Pythagorean Theorem, spatial visualization, everyday applications, and reading and interpreting graphs and tables. In addition, some of the later questions may involve linear or quadratic functions and equations, coordinate geometry, and other topics traditionally covered in a beginning algebra course.

The AMC 8 is a standalone competition that introduces students to a different kind of mathematical problem-solving than is usually seen in school curricula. Students who enjoy the AMC 8 could go on to try the AMC 10/12.

Each class will have a basic, medium, and hard question from a previous AMC 8 competition. We will have fun as we solve problems together and mix in games as well.  We will try to especially focus on AMC 8 problems to challenge 5th and 6th graders.
