Class experience
US Grade 7 - 10
In Algebra 1, the students will be introduced to all of the prerequisite topics for high school Integrated Geometry. As the students moves through each topic, they will be building a strong mathematical foundation. Each week we will start by reviewing the previous topic, do a quick warm-up, dig into the new content and then work at applying the newly acquired methods. In order for the class to be most effective, the students will need to engage in active note-taking. It is important to note...
Prior to my professional teaching career as a secondary Math teacher, I taught Politics as a college professor for a decade. After leaving the university level, I shifted my professional orientation to high school where I have specialized as an Algebra classroom teacher for over five years at one of the top high schools in Colorado. In fact, this year I was awarded the "Teacher of the Year: Teacher Impact Award" for my work with my Algebra students. Indeed, for the last 3 years my Algebra students have outscored all the others network/district classes.
Homework Offered
In this course, students will be given a set of five questions, derived from the new lesson content, that they will be asked to solve independently after the class (and before the start of the next class). Students should expect to allocate between 10-20 minutes to complete their assigned practice sets.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
In this course, students will be assessed on two parameters - practice & participations and content mastery. Grades, with an updated assessment review, will be shared with students and parents on a weekly basis. EVALUATION: Practice & Participation: A= Comes ready to learn, has everything ready at class time (notebook, completed homework, pencil, paper, calculator, eraser, etc.), asks/answers questions, demonstrates comprehension B= Comes ready to learn, has almost everything ready at class time (notebook, nearly all of the completed homework, pencil, paper, calculator, eraser, etc.), asks/answers questions, demonstrates comprehension C= Comes ready to learn, usually has everything ready at class time (notebook, most of the completed homework, pencil, paper, calculator, eraser, etc.), asks/answers questions, demonstrates comprehension Content Mastery: A= Demonstrates great proficiency in each topic as evidenced by end of class review questions & end of course assessment B= Demonstrates great proficiency in nearly every topic as evidenced by end of class review questions & end of course assessment C= Demonstrates proficiency in most every topic as evidenced by end of class review questions & end of course assessmentGrades Offered
It is very important that the students have a working camera and microphone. As for additional class materials, the students will need a notebook, pencil, scratch paper, and a basic calculator to check the accuracy of their work.
To help assist with learning, students will be asked to complete their homework practice sets through Edulastic.com. This platform is a great formative assessment tool that will allow me to see students learning outcomes and, as a result, allow me to adjust pacing and instructional aspects of the class to best suit the students. We may also occasionally use a few activity-driven platforms like Kahoot, Desmos, and Quizlets in order to practice newly acquired skills in a fun format.
