Did you know that when presented with fractions, most students want to turn and run because they "hate" them? If your student is in that category, then this class is for you! As we explore adding and subtracting fractions, we will discover what it means to add and subtract fractions, why you need to have like denominators, and how to use models to helps solve problems. Through lecture, discussion, and interactive participation, students will understand WHY you must add and subtract with like...
Students will understand why fractions must have like denominators before adding and subtracting. Students will be able to draw and solve addition and subtraction problems with fractions that have like denominators. Students will be able to use addition and subtraction of fractions to represent real-world scenarios.
Students will have optional after-class activities to help deepen their understanding of the topic and give them more practice.
2 files available upon enrollmentStudents will need some type of writing materials to draw fraction models: colored pencils and paper or a dry-erase board and markers. Ability to print PDF's is helpful, but not necessary - a notes page and a practice page will be available to print if desired.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
