US Grade 6 - 9
This advanced grammar class will explore the nuances of appositives and appositive phrases. In the 23-minute video, I talk learners through a Canva presentation I created that uses writing prompts, examples, and visual aids to help learners understand. Learners can pause the video to write and choose answers, and then I discuss possible answers. Therefore, learners are assessed multiple times throughout the video. The entire lesson, including pauses for thinking and writing, will take about 45 minutes. The course agenda is as follows: 1. Warm-Up 2. Objectives 3. Warm-Up Review 4. Differentiating Between Phrases 5. Punctuating 6. Enriching Sentences – Writing Exercise 7. Example Paragraph – Writing Review 8. Conclusion – Check for Understanding A writing prompt with sample answer is given at the end of the presentation. Learners who submit their paragraphs to me will receive feedback within 48 hours. This class follows the following Common Core Standards: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.7.2 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing. Master's Degree in Education from National University
Bachelor's Degree in English Language and Literature from University of California, Santa Cruz
I taught ELA and writing for seventeen years to people from sixth grade through adulthood, so I have seen the issues that learners of all ages have and how they can affect people later in life. Most of my experience teaching advanced grammar was at a competitive charter school and an independent school.
