This FLEX class is an accelerated version of my live class of the same title. This class is perfect for students who missed a part of 7th grade math previously or who need a class outside of the offered times of the live class. It also works well as an enrichment course. Due to the nature of FLEX classes, I can be flexible about start dates. If you do not see a date that works for you, please send me a message and we can schedule a start date that works for you. This complete course, combined with the three other units, is designed for 7th grade students and will prepare them for taking 8th grade math or a pre-algebra class. It covers all of the skills needed for students to feel confident before moving on to higher level math courses. Prior to this course, students should be comfortable with adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals, fractions, and integers. In addition, students should have experience with evaluating exponents, using the order of operations, and solving two-step equations and proportions. This is unit three out of four total units of 7th grade math. The four units make up the complete course. Below, you will find the list of units. Unit One: Rational Numbers and Expressions Unit Two: Equations and Proportions Unit Three: Geometry Unit Four: Probability and Statistics Unit Three covers the following topics: Week One: Quadrilaterals & Angle Pairs Week Two: Congruent & Similar Figures Week Three: Translations & Reflections Week Four: Scale Drawings & Dilations Week Five: Perimeter & Area of Similar Figures Week Six: Circumference & Area of Circles Week Seven: Surface Area & Volume of Prisms and Cylinders Each week, I will provide an interactive lesson using Pear Deck covering the topic(s) of the week. Included in the Pear Deck lesson will be instructional videos, notes, and practice problems. I create the videos myself and save them on YouTube. They are then embedded into the Pear Deck lesson. I will post note pages that follow the interactive lesson and that students can use to follow along with the presentation. In addition, I will post two homework assignments. These assignments will include a variety of questions that cover the topic of the week. Sometimes, review questions and challenge questions will also be included. I will provide thorough feedback on any assignments turned in to me. I can also provide grades at parents' request. In addition to the homework and interactive lesson each week, I will share a problem-solving challenge. Students will also have the opportunity to play games related to the topic in either Kahoot or Blooket. My goal for students is that they learn to feel comfortable and confident with the necessary 7th grade skills. Due to the nature of a FLEX class, the only way I will know when a student needs help will be by assessing the assignments they turn in or if they ask questions. I offer 20 minute live sessions each week for any students that need some extra help. I am also available through the classroom discussion page or through private message.
Learning Goals
Students will show mastery of the topics listed in the Class Experience section.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Virginia Teaching Certificate in Mathematics
Hello! My name is Carrie and I am excited to share my love of math with students here on Outschool. I believe that building students’ confidence in mathematics is key to their success in future classes. My goal is to help each student gain a full understanding of the prerequisite concepts taught in middle school which will then lead to confidence and success in their high school math courses. I want my students to know that math can be fun and rewarding. I’ve always related solving math problems to completing puzzles: they can be challenging but enjoyable to work through. I hope to share this belief with my students.
Previously, as a public school teacher, I taught several different age groups and subjects. I started in 4th grade and taught all four core subjects. After two years, I chose to try something new and moved to 6th grade. I spent 6 years teaching special education with a focus on math and science. While I loved working with students with special needs, I learned that my true passion was teaching math so I began to teach 7th grade mathematics. I continued to work with students with special needs in my collaborative classes but I also enjoyed working with students of varying levels, including advanced students. Eventually, I decided to leave the public school system and homeschool my high school aged daughter. I also taught my homeschooled nephew 6th grade math as well as pre-algebra. Currently, I am back in the public school system and teach 7th grade math again. I currently hold a Virginia teaching license and am licensed to teach Elementary (PK – 6), General Special Education (K – 12), and Middle School Math (6 – 8).
As an Outschool teacher, I offer full curriculum 6th and 7th grade FLEX math classes. These courses (4 units each) cover all of the topics required for 6th and 7th grade. These courses are designed to be a starting point & guide for homeschooling families. They are also useful for supplementing and enriching the math classes that students enrolled in public schools take.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and our cat, reading, gardening, vacationing, and going to concerts and movies.
