US Grade 5
This course will not disappoint your learner!! We are going to have a blast learning about science! This course is quarter 3 of 4 quarters that encompass 5th grade science. Learners can take this course to meet their 5th grade science standards and/or use it as a supplement to their current 5th grade comprehensive science curriculum. *COURSES CAN BE TAKEN IN ANY ORDER The lessons will include presentations, videos, handouts, doodle notes, hands-on learning activities and labs/experiments! The activities will appeal to all learner styles! It is crucial to foster a love for science in learners so they want to continue developing their science skills for middle school and high school. Science matters and your learner will begin to enjoy science with this course! Unit 1: Forces & Motion (Weeks 1-4) 1. What are Forces? 2. How Do Forces Affect Motion? 3. Balanced and Unbalanced Forces 4. Lab Activity Unit 2: Weather (Weeks 5-8) 5. What is the Water Cycle? 6. Weather Patterns & Predicting Weather/Tools for Measuring Weather 7. Weather vs Climate 8. Lab Activity Please feel free to reach out with any questions you might have or schedule requests. I look forward to meeting your learner in class! Q1 Scientists at Work & The Solar System and the Universe Q2 The Nature of Matter (States of Matter, Temperature, Mixtures & Solutions, Atomic Theory) and Energy Q4 Structure of Living Things, Plant & Animal Adaptations and Changes in Environments
Syllabus

over 8 WeeksUnit 1: Forces & Motion
Lesson 1:
Q3 Meeting 1: What are Forces?
We'll explore the concept of forces. We'll learn that forces are pushes or pulls that can make objects move, stop, or change direction. Through interactive demonstrations and activities, we'll uncover different types of forces, like gravitational, magnetic, and frictional forces.
Lesson 2:
Q3 Meeting 2: How Do Forces Affect Motion?
In Meeting 2, we'll delve into how forces influence motion. We'll explore Newton's laws of motion and discover how forces can cause objects to speed up, slow down, or change direction. We will get to observe firsthand the relationship between forces and motion. Get ready to unravel the secrets of how forces shape the world around us!
Lesson 3:
Q3 Meeting 3: Balanced and Unbalanced Forces
We'll explore the concepts of balanced and unbalanced forces. We'll learn how balanced forces keep objects at rest, while unbalanced forces cause changes in motion. Through interactive activities and real-world examples, we'll grasp the impact of unbalanced forces on objects. Get ready to discover the dynamic interplay of forces in our everyday lives!
Lesson 4:
Q3 Meeting 4: Forces Lab Activity
We'll conduct hands-on experiments to investigate the effects of different forces on objects. From testing gravitational pulls to exploring the impact of friction and air resistance, we'll uncover the science behind forces in action. Get ready for an exciting lab session full of discoveries about about forces!

Florida Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I am a certified teacher and I've been teaching middle school comprehensive science since 2014 and I taught 5th-grade science many years prior to moving to middle school. I currently help design activities that support the 7th & 8th-grade curriculum for all of the science teachers and serve as a math and science instructional coach to K-5 elementary teachers. I will be incorporating reading and writing in this science course as well. I have a master's degree in reading and writing, and I am a firm believer in reading and writing in the content area.
