This ongoing class is for advanced 3rd grade students preparing for 4th grade, current 4th grade students reviewing grade level math material or 5th grade students who need a refresher of 4th grade math content.

Learners will be informally assessed throughout the lesson. I will tailor my instruction to meet the needs of my students.

Class Experience

US Grade 4
In this ongoing course, students will meet twice a week for 45 minutes to review 4th grade math skills based on Common Core standards. This class can serve as a valuable homeschool aid, remote learning supplement, or review for students.

Throughout the course, we will cover a range of important mathematical skills, organized by weekly topics:

Week of July 14th: Multi-digit multiplication (area model and partial product strategies)
Week of July 21st:  Multi-digit multiplication (lattice method and traditional standard algorithm)
Week of July 28th: Long Division (box method and traditional long division method)
Week of August 4th: Decimal place value (comparing decimals, ordering decimals, placing decimals on a number line)
Week of August 11th: Adding and subtracting decimals
Week of August 18th: Money 
Week of August 25th: Geometry (classifying shapes and perimeter)
Week of September 1st : Geometry (area and volume)
Week of September 8th: Mode, mean, median, and range
Week of September 15th: Identifying points, lines, line segments, rays, and angles
Week of September 22nd: Classifying and measuring angles
Week of September 29th: Reading a table and interpreting a line plot
Week of October 6th: Interpret stem-and-leaf plots
Week of October 13th: Graphing on a coordinate plane
Week of October 20th: Factors and multiples
Week of October 27th: Equivalent fractions
Week of November 3rd: Fractions on a number line, equivalent fractions, comparing and ordering fractions
Week of November 10th: Adding fractions with like and unlike denominators 
Week of November 17th: Subtracting fractions with like like and unlike denominators 
Week of November 24th: Adding mixed numbers with like denominators 
Week of December 1st: Subtracting mixed numbers with like denominators 

During each class, students will actively engage in interactive lessons. They will have opportunities to work collaboratively with partners as well as independently to solve problems using the strategies provided in the lessons. Optional homework assignments will be given to provide additional practice before the next class.

This course is recommended for advanced 3rd-grade students preparing for 4th grade, current 4th-grade students reviewing math material, or 5th-grade students who need a refresher of 4th-grade math content.
