Class Experience

US Grade 4
Our number one mission at Moxie Learning is to make sure your children love learning and are gaining confidence throughout their time in our classes! Our students LOVE coming to our classes and yours will too (even if it is a subject they haven't enjoyed in the past).

This course is designed to be taken after school in addition to their regular math program. Students do NOT have to be familiar with the Singapore Math Curriculum before coming to our class.

If your child struggles heavily in math, they may want to take one grade level below where they currently are so we can fill in gaps in their math foundation. Students who struggle academically are also likely to have a dislike of math, our specialty is turning kids who hate math into kids who LOVE math. Give it a couple of weeks and you will see the transformation yourself!

If your child is high in math and isn't challenged enough at school, they will want to take their grade level or even one above. Reach out to us if you aren't sure where to place your child and we can assist you to make sure they are being appropriately challenged and progressing in math.

If your child is right on grade level at school, take their same grade here as we will demand a slightly deeper understanding of concepts than most school programs and your student will gain momentum and confidence in math.

We will often gamify concepts and have class competitions where they are getting to work with partners and/or share their thought processes. It is important students come to class ready to engage with their cameras on and limited distractions around them!

Here is a sample schedule of our class. I will adapt this schedule to fit the needs of the learners in each section.

Week 1: Welcome to Math
Pretesting

Week 2: Place Value and Rounding

Week 3: Mental Math Strategies for Addition and Subtraction

Week 4: Addition and Subtraction up to 1,000,000

Week 5: Multiples

Week 6: Factors

Week 7: Prime and Composite Numbers

Week 8: Multiplying by 1 and 2 digit numbers

Teacher expertise and credentials
When I was in school, I fell victim to math phobia and believed I was "bad" at math. Now I pride myself on meeting students where they are at and building their confidence to see they can learn any concept. I have experience in traditional 3rd and 4th grade classrooms teaching math as well as 4 years teaching online and have seen first hand the difference in student achievement when they build confidence in themselves. This creates a life long love of learning which is even more valuable than the specific skills they will learn in my classroom.

Our team of teachers have several years of online educational experience in various grade levels and subjects. We are excited to share our love of learning with your children!
