Are you having trouble adding depth, shadows, and highlights to your drawings? Then this class is for you! In this 3D shading course, each of my students will learn basic techniques to take their shading to the next level by exploring the basics of shading a sphere. Be careful! After this class, their drawing may just bounce out of the page. We will begin with a shading exercise to get a feel for shading from dark to light while discussing a couple of basic techniques to help us along the way. Then, we will discuss light perspective and shadow. We will use our new techniques and knowledge to create a drawing of a 3D sphere. I will be demonstrating the techniques with my students and working right along with them. And don't worry! The goal is not perfection. The goal is to Jill a basic understanding or light and depth. Each student needs a pencil, eraser, something circular to trace, and preferably sketching paper. (Any blank paper can be used if sketching paper is not available.) I am a self-taught professional artist, specializing in oil portrait paintings. I believe that art is about self expression and learning, and I hope to create a fun, interactive environment where students can develop a love for art while building their confidence in a new skill. I am a professional artist, specializing in oil portrait paintings, and I have had the privilege of displaying my artwork in venues across the country. I believe that art is about self expression and learning, and I hope to create a fun, interactive environment where students can develop a love for art while building their confidence in a new skill.
I have always struggled with expecting “perfection” of myself, especially in my art, so I am constantly reminding my students, as well as myself, that perfection is not required, and that practice, not unreasonable expectations, is what a advances our skills.
My joy in teaching comes from the comments of my students and their parents, expressing that they created something they didn’t know was possible.
