Week 1Lesson 1Expressions and Equations, Expression SimplificationThis lesson introduces you to the fundamental concepts of expressions and equations. You'll learn how to simplify expressions by combining like terms and applying basic mathematical operations. By mastering expression simplification, you'll build a solid foundation for solving equations and tackling more complex mathematical problems in future lessons.Lesson 2Solving Simple Linear Equations, Number of SolutionsIn this session, we'll delve into the world of solving simple linear equations. You'll discover techniques for isolating variables and finding solutions to equations with one variable. Additionally, we'll explore the concept of the number of solutions to linear equations, examining scenarios where equations may have one, infinite, or no solutions. By the end of this lesson, you'll feel confident in your ability to solve basic linear equations and analyze their solutions effectively.Lesson 3Equations with Brackets, Linear Equations with FractionsIn this lesson, we'll break down these concepts into manageable steps. You'll learn strategies for simplifying equations with brackets and solving equations with fractional coefficients or terms. By mastering these techniques, you'll expand your problem-solving skills and be better equipped to tackle a wide range of mathematical challenges.Week 2Lesson 4Using Linear Equations for Problem Solving, Literal EquationsIn this session, we'll explore how to use linear equations to solve practical problems, including word problems. You'll learn how to translate verbal descriptions into mathematical equations and apply linear equations to solve problems efficiently. Additionally, we'll introduce the concept of literal equations, providing you with the tools to handle equations with multiple variables confidently.Lesson 5Revision and In-Class AssessmentIn this session, we'll conduct a comprehensive review of the material covered so far and address any lingering questions or concerns you may have. Additionally, we'll administer an in-class assessment to gauge your mastery of the material. This assessment will help us identify areas where you excel and areas that may require additional focus as we prepare for the final lesson.Lesson 6Feedback and Personalized Improvement PlanIn our final session together, we'll provide personalized feedback based on your performance in the in-class assessment. You'll receive detailed insights into your strengths and areas for improvement, along with a customized improvement plan tailored to your individual needs.
• Expressions and Equations • Expression Simplification • Solving simple linear equations • No of solutions to linear equations • Equations with brackets (parentheses) • Linear equations involving fractions • Using linear equations to solve problems (Word problems) • Literal equations
Teaching experience: - High school math teacher (17 years) - Private math tutor (20 years) - IT math lecturer (5 years) Qualification: - Bachelor of Engineering (UNSW) - Graduate Diploma in Education (UNSW) - Master of Education (USYD) - Master of Professional Accounting (RMIT)
Homework Offered
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
During the last session, there will be an in-class assessment to evaluate if each student achieved their individual goals. The assessment is recommended for all students.Grades Offered
An in-class assessment will be conducted during the 5th session of the course. Students will be evaluated on their understanding and application of the topics covered thus far. Following the assessment, I will personally mark each student's work and provide detailed feedback, along with a personalized improvement plan. This feedback will help students understand their strengths and areas for growth, guiding them towards further improvement and success in the course.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
- All course materials include concept summary notes and various math questions. Assessment results will be privately communicated to each student and not posted in the class. This ensures individualized feedback and maintains confidentiality. - There is no make-up session for any missed classes, and no refund will be provided for unproductive sessions caused by math materials not being shared by the parent/student before the sessions.
All course materials, including concept summary notes and math questions, are based on the US math curriculum and will be provided to students.
