Class Experience
Beginner - Intermediate Level
This 1 time course is a specialized math tutoring class designed for middle school students to develop a strong foundation in math skills. This course allows students to ask questions and get help with class materials. Taught by experienced math teacher who is skilled at working with middle school students, this course aims to improve students' math abilities and boost their confidence in tackling math problems. Math tutoring for middle school typically covers a range of topics aimed at building a solid foundation in mathematics. Here's a list of common topics often taught in math tutoring sessions for middle school students: Arithmetic: Operations with whole numbers (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) Order of operations Properties of numbers (commutative, associative, distributive) Fractions, Decimals, and Percents: Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions and decimals Converting between fractions, decimals, and percents Percent applications (percent increase, percent decrease, percent of a number) Ratios and Proportions: Understanding ratio notation Solving proportion problems Applications of ratios and proportions in real-life contexts Algebraic Concepts: Introduction to variables and expressions Solving basic equations and inequalities Simplifying algebraic expressions Graphing linear equations and inequalities on the coordinate plane Geometry: Basic geometric shapes and properties (lines, angles, polygons, circles) Perimeter and area of two-dimensional shapes Volume and surface area of three-dimensional shapes Congruence and similarity Basic concepts of transformations (translations, rotations, reflections) Data and Statistics: Collecting, organizing, and interpreting data Measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode) Reading and creating various types of graphs (bar graphs, line graphs, histograms, etc.) Probability concepts and calculations Problem-Solving Skills: Developing strategies for problem-solving Identifying patterns and relationships Translating word problems into mathematical expressions or equations Critical thinking and logical reasoning These topics may vary slightly depending on the curriculum followed by the student's school or the specific needs of the student. The goal of math tutoring for middle school students is to ensure they have a strong understanding of fundamental mathematical concepts and are well-prepared for more advanced math courses in high school. If you need a longer class please see my 55 minute session. If you need times that are different from what I have available please message me and we can work out a time.

Hi! My name is Hillary Knott!
Class I teach:
I currently teach Mathematics for 6th grade students; I teach regular 6th grade math classes as well as an honors/Pre-Algebra class for advanced learners.
My professional Background:
I currently teach at a Title I school were I teach General Education classes as well as inclusion classes ( I am special education certified). I have been at that school for almost 3 years (1 year being my 1st student teaching). For my student teaching, I was placed in an 8th grade math classroom. The intent would be that I would be in that classroom for the entire school year. In November, I was asked to fill in full time for a 6th grade math teacher at the same school. I accepted and was then hired for the next school year.
My philosophy:
I believe that children are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. I will provide an atmosphere where students are invited to share their ideas and take risks so that the students can meet their full potential.
Something fun:
I am currently engaged and getting married this October!
