Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Beginner Level
In this one on one tutoring class, we will work on your child's current math homework or classwork to explain difficult concepts, use examples to expand understanding, and practice with their actual homework questions to help them reach their full potential. Areas of focus can include pre-algebra, geometry, fractions, and decimals with scaffolding up to two grade levels below their current grade. Each lesson is tailored to your child's specific needs, with plenty of opportunities for practice with specific, meaningful feedback along the way.
Learning Goals
Students will learn mathematical concepts in alignment with their current homework and classwork assignments using a systematic framework to teach the new concept or skill.

I like to blend fun topics into more serious subjects, like math, writing, and reading! My favorite lesson I ever taught was a reading lesson on The Lorax for Earth Day where we read the book, discussed ways to help our planet stay healthy, took a pledge to help keep our planet healthy and clean, and wrote letters to the Earth and the Lorax. This is the kind of teaching I like to do: find a larger topic that kids are interested in and tie academic work into that. I also love to teach kids about baking and cooking, art, and languages like ASL and Spanish.

I’m a currently licensed Nevada special education teacher with endorsements in Gifted and Talented Education, English as a Second Language, and American Sign Language, with a Masters in curriculum and instruction and a Masters in Applied Behavior Analysis in Special Education.

Something fun about me: I learned to read by watching Wheel of Fortune with my grandmother and I’m pretty sure my own son learned to read from us reading to him and subtitles on TV. I also love to cook with my kids.
