Class Experience
US Grade 5 - 8
Beginner - Advanced Level
In this one-on-one (private) art class I (Andy) will teach the student how to work in mixed media art. They may choose any type of subject to illustrate...from a jellyfish to a Ferrari! In this class we will use (but not limited to) colored pencils, alcohol markers and acrylic markers. If the student has another other type of paints or art media they would like to work with please let me know before the class. ******IMPORTANT: If there is a time that you'd like to reserve that is not listed as available don't hesitate to send me a direct message and I can try to make it available. I will use two cameras on for the class. One will be focused on my face and the other camera will be focused on my drawing pad. The drawing will be done step-by-step. I will draw along and explain what I am doing. The student will draw along with me. I have been using this online method to teach via Zoom for several years and I find it very effective and enjoyable. I will pause every so often to ensure that the student has not fallen behind. I will also ask the student to show me their work. If needed I will explain how it can be improved. I will give encouragement and motivation throughout the class. If the student does not understand something or has a question I will be happy to answer them. My teaching style is relaxed and positive. No prior knowledge or experience is required. Please have the student choose a reference photo of the subject they wish to illustrate and send it to me in a conversation at least 24 hours before the class is set to start. Doing so will give me time to inspect the picture and ensure it is appropriate for the class. I have been drawing and painting for over 10 years and I have been teaching for 3 years.
Learning Goals
Student will learn how to combine paints, markers and pencils in order to make a beautiful piece of artwork.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Andy and I’m a fine artist working out of my home studio in South Carolina. I have been a fine artist since 2013 and a fine arts teacher via Zoom since 2021.
I teach art classes greatly focusing on what the student wants to learn. I like to let them choose the project and media if they want to.
I love teaching and sharing what I have learned with others. I enjoy seeing how my students are able to develop their skills.
I specialize in watercolors, colored pencils, acrylic and alcohol markers as well as acrylic paints. I greatly enjoy painting realistic animals, landscapes and cityscapes. I enjoy what I call "Instagram art" and it's what mainly influences me - the use of bright colors and eye catching subjects. This style is what I enjoy and find most satisfying when I draw or paint. I love animals of all kinds.
I have a cat named Reno and a saltwater aquarium with a crab, clownfish, snails and shrimp.
