Overview:
"People and Places in Our Community" is a dynamic and engaging curriculum developed by the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW). This program is designed to introduce students to the various roles and locations that form the backbone of our communities. Through a blend of writing, reading, and interactive activities, students will gain a deeper understanding of how different people and places contribute to the functioning and vibrancy of their communities.

Target Audience:
This curriculum is suitable for elementary students, particularly those in grades 1-3. It is designed to cater to a range of learning styles and abilities, ensuring all students can participate and benefit.

Objectives:
To enhance students' understanding of community roles and locations.
To develop students' writing skills using the IEW methodology.
To encourage curiosity and engagement with their local communities.
To foster appreciation and respect for various community members and services.
Key Components:

Writing Instruction:
Structure and Style: Students will learn to write clear and structured paragraphs and short essays. They will use the IEW writing process, which includes brainstorming, outlining, drafting, and revising.
Writing Topics: Assignments will focus on describing different community roles (e.g., firefighters, teachers, doctors) and places (e.g., libraries, parks, grocery stores).
