Book clubs are a great way to teach students to form and share opinions with others, which is an important skill to have as they get older. I run all book clubs, so every student can answer questions that I pose and participate in the lively discussion. I am also aware that some students prefer to participate through chat than on a microphone. This is completely acceptable. My goal for the students is to get them to share their thoughts; however, they feel comfortable doing that.
