Through engaging discussions, close readings of original texts and multimedia presentations, this course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the darker layers that exist within fairytales. By examining these complex narratives, participants will gain a deeper appreciation for the evolution of these stories and the underlying messages they convey.

1. Gain an in-depth understanding of the original tales that inspired Disney princess movies and the cultural and historical context surrounding their creation.
2. Analyze and interpret the darker themes and messages present in the original stories, such as sacrifice, abuse, resilience, and the consequences of one's actions.
3. Develop critical thinking and analytical skills through discussions and reflections on the differences between the original tales and their Disney adaptations, examining the reasons behind the changes made.
4. Explore the psychological dimensions of the princess characters, their motivations, and character arcs, allowing for a deeper appreciation of their complexity and development.
5. Foster empathy and understanding by discussing the implications of these darker themes with regards to personal growth, societal norms, and relationships, encouraging thoughtful reflections and conversations about complex topics.

While we will approach these subjects with sensitivity and age-appropriate discussions, it's crucial for you to be aware that some of the material covered in the course might challenge the traditional, idealized versions of the princesses that your children may be familiar with.
