I love seeing all the beautiful colors in the sky during the sunset. Capturing a sunset scene on paper is easier than it looks. In this one-time class appropriate for a variety of ages and abilities, learners will discuss their feelings and observations about sunsets. I will guide them in using drawing materials to draw the silhouettes of objects and the ground and then paint the sky with watercolors. We will also use some household materials to add interesting effects to our watercolors....
Students will not only learn how to create a scene like this one, they will also learn watercolor techniques they can use in other artworks.
Sturdy paper for painting - approximately A4 size or 9”x12” A watercolor set or liquid watercolors A large watercolor brush A container of water Black and white oil pastels or crayons - I highly recommend oil pastels for this project, but crayons work too A small amount of coarse salt - regular table salt works, but coarse salt such as kosher salt is best A small amount of rubbing alcohol (if the smell bothers your learner, they don’t have to use it) A dropper or smaller brush Paper towels A covered area to work on
