夏季數學遊戲：長乘法和長除法（4-6 年級）

In this ongoing summer class, students gain practice in skills of long multiplication and long division, while engaging in game play.  This class follows a Singapore Math style, with a focus on the game play repetition.  It's perfect for those who have already been introduced to long multiplication & division, but need some more practice.  It's also great for kids who love math, and want to keep up their skills over the summer.  

All activities in this class will be centered around building understanding of long multiplication and long division.  Students should be comfortable with multiplication and division and know most of their facts by memory.  Please keep in mind that although I do take advantage of teachable moments, this class is NOT instructional in nature.  It is meant to supplement other instruction or provide a review to material that students learned in the previous school year.

WEEK of June 12:  Multiplying Hundreds, Tens, and Ones
   Game: Spin & Multiply
WEEK of June 19:  Long Multiplication 
   Game:  Greatest and Least Product
WEEK of June 26:  Long Multiplication Algorithm
   Game:  Roll & Multiply
WEEK of July 10: Dividing by Hundreds, Tens, and Ones
   Game:  Division Duels
WEEK of July 17: Long Division Algorithm
   Game:  Greatest & Least Quotient

ABOUT SINGAPORE MATH

Singapore Math is a mastery-based approach to math, where students progress from concrete examples (real life), to pictures, and finally apply their knowledge to the abstract, using numbers and algorithms.  Students do a lot of hands-on work, as well as, mental math.  Instead of mimicking procedures, they learn how to think mathematically and apply what they know to solve problems. One of the major benefits of the program is the hands-on activities and games.  This class provides them with the opportunity to play and learn with other students from around the world!
