*This class is generally developmentally for students who are entering 2nd through 4th grades. However Spelling isn't always grade dependent so check the sample word lists to be sure it is a good fit.** Each week your child will either print a list of words given and cut the words or write them on slips of paper so they can be sorted. **This class will help students manipulate, see, say and write spelling words. This hands-on approach will encourage the use of sounds to help when spelling...
Students will learn to spell by patterns. It is not about memorizing words for a Spelling test on Friday. Instead learning the rules through word study will help with carry over to writing.
I use this approach in my 3rd grade classroom and see how effective it is with carry-over to reading and writing. Students learn spelling & phonics rules as opposed to "memorizing" the words and soon forgetting them.
A list of words will be in the classroom each week.
