Charlotte Mason, a turn of the century educator, said: "Let them [children] once get in touch with nature and a habit is formed which will be a source of delight and habit through life." The aim for this ongoing class is to awaken a sense of excitement, joy and discovery of the natural world. This is a sample class of an ongoing Nature Study Class/Group. At the beginning of the lesson the students will share what they have observed around their home and community. Animals, plants,...
Students will develop the foundational science skills of observation, questioning and recording. Students will develop the skill of research as they look for information about their natural observations. Students will also develop artistic skills as they draw what they see in nature.
I have been a Charlotte Mason homeschool teacher for many years. It is our preferred method of learning. It is meant to inspire and give learners skills, tools and a desire to know more about the world around them. Charlotte Mason teachers "spread the feast" and allow students to take what nourishes them.
