In  piano classes, students will be taught the basics of playing the piano by learning correct posture, fingering and hand positions, notes on the piano, music signs and symbols, note values and  rest values.  They will begin to understand how music elements, such as rhythm, melody, and dynamics work together to create a song. This class will be filled with interactive activities through playing the piano, clapping, singing, drawing, coloring, playing musical games,  and writing musical signs and symbols.   

I am a retired public school music teacher.  I graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC with a  Bachelors of Music Education.  I have taught music to all grades in the public school system, but spent most of time in elementary and middle school music. I have taught private piano lessons for many years in my home to all ages, ranging from 5 years old to adults.  I have taught online for more than 5 years and enjoy this a great deal!  I am also certified in Reading and ESL and enjoy working with all ages of students.

I would like to encourage the students to practice the skills that they have learned for a few minutes each day.  A certain time amount is not suggested, because each student learns at a different pace.  Practice at home will be needed in order to master the skills learned in class.   It is my ambition  to create a fun and inviting classroom, which will encourage them to want to practice in order to master the skills learned.  Practice video links will be sent.

 Informal assessment will occur throughout each lesson through echo activities, question and answer, piano performance activities, and written skills training. Students will also have opportunities to share their progress with others in class by playing solos.

Videos that have been uploaded to Youtube as unlisted videos will be used in classes. These videos have been embedded into the Outschool classroom so that students will not need to access them outside of the classroom.
