課堂經歷

美國等級 4 - 7
Learning Goals:
-read a literary classic and build an appreciation of good literature
-become interested and dedicated to a series of books(studies show that children who finish a series of books perform better in school and are more likely to become lifelong readers)
-analyze, relate to, discuss, and ENJOY the main character Anne Shirley
-learn to ask good discussion questions and take an active, respectful part in discussions
-learn to select meaningful quotations and explain why they are meaningful
-tackle tricky vocabulary by looking for clues in the passage
-practice reading aloud certain sections with expression and fluency
-relate and respond personally to the text, see what Anne teaches us about ourselves, especially as it pertains to reality vs. ideals
-learn about PEI’s very distinctive setting in Canada and expand basic geography knowledge
-enjoy a bond with fellow readers
I am a certified teacher with over 26 years of experience in Canadian classrooms. I specialize in Middle Years English and have led hundreds of book clubs with countless fifth and sixth grade children. I have truly enjoyed every minute of it. Perhaps most telling of all, I have been enthralled with Anne Shirley my whole life...so much so, that I went to Prince Edward Island and bought a farmhouse there!!
提供的家庭作業
-Reading of the novel is done as homework before each meeting(If the text is too hard for your child to understand, parents may feel free to read sections aloud to the child for better enjoyment of the novel.) -Learners will be required to do the following assignments prior to each meeting and be prepared to share their work verbally at book club meetings: -Pick a favorite quote from the assigned text -Pick 3 interesting words from the assigned text -Form a discussion question based on the assigned text -A template will be provided for learners to record the above assignments for each meeting -The homemade vintage scrolls will be partially completed as homework, but learners can make these as simple or as detailed as they want them to be

-A copy of the novel “Anne of Avonlea” from your local public library or buy one online(Amazon or EBay) -A template for Book Club work will be provided -Vintage Scroll Supplies: 10 sheets of regular 8.5x11” printer paper, tea bags, twine or ribbon, pencil, glue stick, scissors, coloring pencils, a basic watercolor paint set. Parents, please note that the novel "Anne of Avonlea" deals with Anne struggling whether or not to “whip” a disrespectful student and in the end feels she has no choice but to administer such discipline. In class we will discuss the difference in dealing with behavior issues now compared to the time period of the book(late 1800's), and how this mode of discipline is unacceptable in today’s society.

In addition, there are instances in the novel of subtle racist character descriptions which were more commonplace during the time frame the book was written. It will be pointed out in class that racism in any form should never be acceptable, and will provide the opportunity for a candid discussion on how we should not tolerate subtle racism. Thank you parents for working together with me to develop these essential skills in your children.

Also, please feel free to read the book aloud to learners if the vocabulary or reading level proves too challenging, in fact this is highly encouraged. Reading aloud to your child is a wonderful experience for everyone.
