課堂經歷
This is a one time class where each learner will be able to creatively express their thoughts and feelings by drawing, writing and collage! It can be in any combination while using their imagination! 1. I will introduce a keyword, such as JOY. This word will change for each possible future session. 2. I will guide them through a brainstorming session of spontaneous word association and write down as many other words or feelings associated with our key word. They can banter with the other learners and see how much writing comes out of it. This is also helpful to break through procrastination and allow the learner to get messy! Write it all down quickly! 3. I will then guide them through a brainstorming session of colour association so they can create a palette of colours they wish to use and how it relates to the words they wrote. 4. Bring it all together in a wonderfully curated image combining the words, colours, images and anything else they wish to add to their art using drawing, writing, collage. 5. Reflection: How did they feel at the beginning of the session? How do they feel now? What felt really easy? What felt hard? 6. After class art rituals: building a habit of making time and space for art-making. This is about having fun, becoming engaged in the creative process while they learn to identify what they are feeling and how to actively articulate it creatively. I work alongside all of them and participate as if I was taking the class too, not just instructing. Each learner gets to do it their own way and use their intuition while I guide them through the brainstorming process.

Each learner should be able to engage with their own imagination in a loosely structured lesson around expressing their thoughts and feelings using word association. This helps them focus inwardly and help strengthen their self-esteem and individual thought process. It helps build vocabulary as well as understanding more about the colour spectrum. It also takes their minds off of a lot of other anxieties going on in the world as they learn to self-regulate their thoughts and emotions into a concrete visual representation!
The learners should be able to explore their intuition and creativity on their own time without the pressure of 'making it perfect'. This is about being in the moment and enjoying it, again and again!

Gather or buy as many art supplies as you can that are affordable for you: -coloured pencils, pencil crayons, crayons, pastels, markers. -water colours, inks, brushes, water containers, paper towels, cloths. -stickers, washi tape, coloured paper, magazines. -loose paper (8.5 x 11") or paper from a sketchbook with size range (5.5" x 8.5" to larger). -magazines -glue, ruler, scissors

I studied and worked in Graphic Design for over 15 years and have graduated from the Social Service Worker and Expressive Art Therapy training programs because I wanted to go deeper into understanding my own creativity and how I could help others. I have over 1200 hours of supervised art facilitator experience combined with 10+ years with children and teens at various schools, health centres and arts communities. I continued to draw and paint with traditional graphite, coloured pencils, pastels, and acrylics. I use a lot of stylized line work and metallics. I believe that creativity is the birthright of every human being! Art is inherently therapeutic on so many levels. I also have taught illustration techniques for understanding light and shading at various schools and art centres.
Being a mom is one of the most important things to me so I took some time to raise my own before returning to my own art and teaching once again! I am so happy to be helping learners tap into their creativity!
My wish is to help learners feel more empowered and confident as they explore different art practices, building on technical skills as well as patience. I have a special place in my heart for working with learners with hidden dis/abilities, ADD/HD/Inattentive or need help with self-regulation and focus. I want to make it fun and honour the rules of Outschool to ensure everyone is able to engage without interruption for each session.
I am aware that any creative outlet can bring up many emotions. I provide a SAFE SPACE for everyone and make it as fun and grounded as possible! Expressive Arts is not a therapy or counselling session. I facilitate the arts and intuitive creative process. I am LGBTQ@2+ and BIPOC friendly and continuously strive to update my inclusive approach to be anti-racist, anti-discriminatory and aware of invisible dis/abilities, socio-economic risks, marginalized populations and mental health concerns. I am able to discern, assure and redirect to ensure the safety of all participants.
