Non-rhyming poems are a perfect way to explore how to use language simply but very effectively. When a diamante poem is thrown into the mix, you have something that looks good as well as showcasing the language. As its name suggests, diamante poems are diamond-shaped; created with a particular format of words per line and a combination of nouns, adjectives and verbs. Students will: Understand what a diamante poem is and how it is structured Use nouns, adjectives and verbs in their poems Gain an understanding of synonyms and antonyms Learn about transition points and identify them in their poem Produce two different styles of diamante poems.
Writing is my passion and as well as majoring in English at university, along with Theatre Arts, I've almost 20 years of experience in teaching English in primary schools. Over those years, I have worked regularly with groups of children specifically on English writing skills and teaching creative writing online. I have written poetry in many styles and have studied different genres of poetry and learned over the years how to break down then construct various types of poems.
1 註冊後即可取得文件A notebook or paper and something to write with, or a device to use for writing. Optional: a template is provided for learners to print out and use in class. While learners can write their poems without it, it may help to give students practice and build confidence in setting out their poems without worrying too much at an early stage about getting the words in exactly the right place to create the diamond shape. As we’ll be writing two types of poem, it may help to have two copies of the second template (which has paler lines and doesn’t include the word guide)
