In this one-time class, students will learn how to draw Maribel from the movie Encanto. This lesson will focus on the following art skills and elements:
- Portrait drawing skills in a cartoon style
- Basic shaping for the human form
- There will be extensive time and emphasis on learning how to draw curly hair. Advanced students will have the opportunity to learn more about shading techniques to bring depth to the hair by showing value.

Students can follow the drawing instruction step-by-step in my classes but are also encouraged to be creative and try things as well. Throughout class we will talk about the art in an open discussion format, and also discuss Maribel and the movie Encanto. Students are encouraged to take turns sharing and chat but also can remain silent if they choose. 

Younger and less advanced artists can expect a more simplified version of this drawing during class time as showing value and shading is a skill typically students learn starting in the 5th grade (US equivalent). Older and more advanced younger students in the age range may have more focus on shading and value in the hair. Students who complete their drawing before the end of class will also be offered extra tips and can continue to expand on their work by including more details in the background to create a scene, or starting a new piece. 

All of my classes are highly interactive and usually contain a special surprise at the end in form of a mystery unboxing, magic trick, etc.!

FAQ/Policies

- ONE STUDENT PER SPOT. If enrolling multiple students, please register each of them. Multiple students appearing under the same spot will result in students being removed from the classroom.

- All my Outschool classes have a limited refund policy. Transfers, no-shows, late arrivals, cancellations, refunds and make-up requests CANNOT be accommodated within 24 hours of class time. No exceptions. Class recordings are available upon request for missed sections if the class proceeds with other students. 

- Teachers on Outschool are independent contractors who cannot control nor troubleshoot technical issues with Zoom or the Outschool platform. Please test your connection with your device in advance of class time and contact Outschool directly at support@outschool.com for help with technical issues. 

- Live sections with no present learners are cancelled after 10 minutes of class time. 

- I do not offer sibling discounts for public classes at this time, however, I do offer a small discount for private classes when registering 2 or more students for a month or more. Please message me for more details. 

- These are WYSIWIG art classes: What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get! All thumbnails, promotional materials, class resources, and in-class drawings are original art produced by Marie (the teacher). Students are often offered a variety of reference images and resources from popular art styles to choose so they can draw in their preferred style, but special focus is paid to developing student's original art skills and not simply copying another artist. All images, drawings or other art resources are never taken from other artists to use as promotional materials.
