Calling all dinosaur lovers! If you spend your free time watching Netflix documentaries about dinosaurs, watching dino-themed TV shows, pouring over dinosaur books, playing with dinosaur toys, and wishing YOU could travel to Jurassic World, then this is the club for you! **NOTE: I have two age-groups for this class. There is some overlap in age range, as some students may do better in the younger group and some may prefer the older group. If you need help decided which is the best for your child, please reach out via private message.** This is an ongoing, one-year course. We meet year round with a few breaks for holidays, etc. You can join in at any time and stay for as many weeks as you want. The content repeats annually--so, if you join in January (or October, or May, etc) you can expect new material every week for a full year--that's a LOT of dinosaurs! Each week, I will present a brief lesson about a featured dinosaur of my choosing. Even when the featured dinosaur is a repeat from a different class of mine, the content and approach will be different, so you don't have to worry about it being too much "the same." We will practice our scientific observation skills by examining illustrations of our PCOTW (Prehistoric Creature of the Week) together, looking at special attributes of each individual dinosaur. Once we have shared our observations, students will draw (or color the provided coloring page) the dinosaur in their "field guide" journal and label it. Weekly printed fact sheets will be provided, which students may cut out and add to their journals, as well. The remainder of the class will be spent exchanging dinosaur facts, sharing favorite dinosaur toys and books, and generally "geeking out" about dinos together. We will also occasionally play related interactive games, age-appropriate movement activities, and more (see below). Students will be encouraged to bring something dino-related to share each week (toys, books, facts, etc), and will also occasionally be provided extension activities between meetings. In each short, introductory lesson, students will learn about the weekly featured dinosaur through a variety of approaches, such informational texts, informative slides, age-appropriate video clips, graphics, and more. We will also intermittently add playful learning activities such as: building and sculpting, movement activities, games, discussion, repetition and more. Vocabulary words such as paleontologist, herbivore, carnivore, timeline, mesozoic, triassic, jurassic, cretaceous, fossil, bipedal, quadrupedal, prehistoric, extinction and more will be introduced and used during these interactive, engaging lessons. ***Access to a color printer is required for this course. *** Upcoming themes (subject to change and posted in the classroom a day before each meeting): NOTE: Weekly themes cycle on an annual basis and are subject to change based on teacher discretion WINTER 2025 FIELD GUIDES BEGIN Week of January 5, 2025 (Topics will be posted prior to the start of the new season) Week of January 5: Rajasaurus Week of January 12: Plateosaurus Week of January 19: Incisivisaurus Week of January 26: IMPROMPTU DINO FUN WEEK (dino-themed games, trivia, etc) Yangchuanosaurus Week of February 2: Yangchuanosaurus Week of February 9: Quilmesaurus Week of February 16: Concavenator Week of February 23: Riojasaurus Week of March 2: Moros Intrepidus Week of March 9: Dreadnoughtus Week of March 16: Nothosaurus Week of March 23: Arizonasaurus SPRING 2025 PASSPORT BEGINS: Week of March 30: Scorpius Rex (hybrid from Camp Cretaceous) Week of April 6: NO CLASS Week of April 13: Megaraptor Week of April 20: DINO FUN WEEK (NO CLASS Monday-Tuesday) Week of April 27: Kronosaurus Week of May 4: Deinonychus Week of May 11: (NO CLASS) Week of May 18: Giganotosaurus Week of May 25: Psittacosaurus Week of June 1: Ornithocheirus Week of June 8: NO CLASS Week of June 15: Dakosaurus Summer 2025 Week of June 22: DINO FUN WEEK (we'll kick off our summer session with games, hands-on activies, and sharing) Week of June 29: NO CLASS Week of July 6: Antarctica: Cryolophosaurus Week of July 13: Africa: Atlasaurus Week of July 20: South America: Aucasaurus Week of July 27: North America: Postocuchus Week of August 3: DINO FUN WEEK (Dinosaur Challenge Game) Week of August 10: Europe: Thalattosaurus Week of August 17: Asia: Xianglong OR Micropachycephalosaurus (we'll vote!) 學習目標
The main focus will be on allowing dinosaur enthusiasts to share their love of dinosaurs, favorite facts, exciting resources, and prized dinosaur toys with fellow dino-loving friends. The short lesson at the beginning will provide a framework for these discussions and will help the young scientist to build and develop observation, recreation, and communication skills. The field guide will serve as a fun keepsake and reference for future dinosaur studies and reflection.
其他詳情
父母的引導和規範
We will discuss relevant topics such as carnivores as meat-eaters, extinction, volcanos that are part of the natural world but may be upsetting to some sensitive learners. Please be assured that all content will be presented in a sensitive, age-appropriate manner.
Regarding supplies/activities:
Movement activities are basic in nature (animal moves, etc) but please be sure to provide adult supervision if you feel it is necessary. Participation in movement activities is not required. Please contact the teacher with any concerns.
All challenges will be age-appropriate in their nature and execution.
Allergy Note: Playdough may contain wheat, which could cause an allergic reaction if ingested in those sensitive to wheat gluten or with Celiac disease. I am happy to provide a recipe for gluten-free playdough upon request, or suggest alternative supplies.
供應清單

I'm so excited to share my love of ALL THINGS DINOSAUR with you! I've been teaching STEAM topics like dinosaurs to preschool through middle school for 8 years through an independent STEAM education company, and I'm really looking forward to connecting with new students here on Outschool. Not only will we be learning about the monstrous reptiles of the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods--but we'll sneak in some scientific method, math, comparing and contrasting, observation, movement and more as we build important communication and social skills in a safe, inclusive environment. Best of all, your child will have the opportunity to share, share, share all of their favorite dinosaur facts and figures!
