This 1 hour class is meant to introduce scientific illustration as its own form of art. Basic knowledge of insect anatomy is helpful but not required for this class. If you are unsure of your students prior knowledge, they may enjoy taking the Build-A-Bug class with me first before taking this 1 hour class. Students will work on their observation and illustration skills during this 1 hour class. We will spend time talking about the different body parts, how they work together, and the different adaptations that insects may have.
I graduated with my BS in Entomology from Michigan State University in 2013. I have not taken an illustration class, but it is something that I practice and have a passion for.
Please make sure that your learner is prepared with a pencil and some blank paper. I will supply supplemental, "Practice Your Skills!" handouts that can be printed at home and practiced with. These are not required for the class, but can be used at home optionally for practice after the class is complete.
