課堂經歷
This class takes an immersion approach to gradually introduce students to the German language. It builds upon Level 1, in which students learned to talk about outdoor activities, musical instruments, and animals using phrases such as "I/you/he/she can/cannot...........", "I/you/he/she play/s......", "I see...", "The....jumps. The...runs. The...flies. The ...walks." The instructor will speak exclusively in German and encourage students to reply to questions and/or repeat phrases. Context, pictures, and body language will be used to demonstrate the meaning of words and phrases to students. English will only be used for important instructions. Constant practice is vital when learning a language, so the class meets three times a week. Week 1: Colors We learn the colors. We find out what everyone's favorite color is and discuss what color various objects are. Week 2: Toy Shelf 1 We look through a toy shelf and say the names of the toys. We talk about what each toy does. Week 3: Toy Shelf 2 We continue to look through the toy shelf and say the names of the toys. We talk about what each toy does. Week 4: Aircraft and Construction Vehicles We talk about various different vehicles. We discuss what each vehicle does. Week 5: People Who Help We talk about policemen and firemen and what they do. Week 6: Ingredients to Bake Cookies It is time to bake cookies! We learn the names of the ingredients and equipment used to bake cookies. Week 7: Activities for Baking Cookies We learn activity words to discuss how cookies are baked.

Tips for a Successful Class:
1. Teach your child to mute and unmute (if possible). This way, they can participate independently.
2. Supervise your child, especially if they can't seem to stay in front of the screen. There is nothing I can do to bring them back!!
3. Keep the surroundings quiet. If the child's surroundings are quiet, you can leave them unmuted. If there is disruptive background noise, I may be forced to mute them.
4. Allow them to bring a toy (if it won't be unreasonably distracting). Talking about the toy in German can be a great icebreaker!

Guten Tag and welcome to my page. I am excited to practice language with you! Having lived in both Germany and the United States, I am bilingual in German and English. As a German-English translator, ESL teacher, and German teacher, I have spent over 10 years inhabiting the crossroads where German and English come together. This experience has been an invaluable asset that helps me explain the nuances of each language to my students in simple, practical terms. I started teaching English as a second language to children in China online about one year ago and I love all of the opportunities online learning presents for engaging learning experiences.
I teach both German as a second language and English as a second language classes. My sessions focus on providing students with authentic situations in which to practice targeted skills such as grammar, vocabulary, and conversation in English or German.
I am an ATA-certified German ->English translator and hold a CELTA Certificate from Cambridge for ESL teaching, where I learned curriculum development and teaching skills that I now apply to both English and German classes. I also hold a Master of Arts in interkulturelle Germanistik (Intercultural German Studies) from the Universität Bayreuth in Germany and a Bachelor of Arts in German Studies from Weber State University in the United States. An Associate of Applied Science in Technical Drafting for manufacturing and mechanical engineering from Weber State University gives me a solid technical background as well. I love combining my technical skills with language to create interesting and unique classes for young learners.
When I'm not working, I can be found biking up to 50 miles on my trusty bicycle or trying to learn a language I don't already know (currently French).
