課堂經歷
Have you ever fallen in love with a fantasy world? Have you ever wondered how authors create their worlds, or even how to do it yourself? If so, this class is the one for you! In this class, we will explore all the different aspects of worldbuilding. Then, we will study how you can apply them to your writing! Worldbuilding is an essential skill for every fiction writer; however, we will explore this concept from a strict fantasy standpoint. **Please Note: Students should have a basic...
Students will learn about the concept of worldbuilding. Students will define and practice 6 important elements of worldbuilding, including Geography, People and/or Creatures, Cultures and Societies, Magic Systems, History, and Technology. Students will learn how to create a map for their fantasy world. Students will learn how to use the world around them to inspire their fantasy concepts.
My experience in discussing how the mentioned topics relate to worldbuilding in novels comes from my degree in English and experience in writing these topics.

This class focuses on giving students the tools they need for creating a fictional world. That said, we will cover sensitive topics such as war, famine, relations between different populations and people groups, sickness, magic, populations or persons in power, power shifts in leadership, poverty, and potential political unrest. These conversations could lead to discussions about discrimination as well. When discussing these topics, our goal is to think about how these things would affect the creatures and beings in the stories that students create. Meaning, we will discuss how these topics would create conflict in ways that would develop or affect the plot of the students' stories. We will never be graphic or insensitive in our discussions, nor will any of the videos we watch be on these topics or display these topics.
We will look at three youtube videos.
