Welcome to Game Design with RPG Maker, a thrilling and engaging course designed for kids in grades 4-10 who love role-playing games like Minecraft, Dungeons & Dragons, Pokemon, Kingdom Hearts, and Final Fantasy. In this class, we'll teach you everything you need to know to create your own RPG game from scratch!

Our program is student-centered, which means that we encourage collaboration, teamwork, and creativity. We want our students to be able to apply the knowledge they learn in class to create their own unique gaming adventures. All skill levels are welcome, and we assume that learners have some basic computer familiarity to make the most of the course.

Over the course of five days, we'll cover a wide range of topics related to game design, such as creating characters, designing maps, implementing narrative elements, developing puzzles, and designing battles in a large gaming world. We'll also explore the game design process, including how to create balanced encounters, and we'll teach you how to design an engaging dungeon-crawler using RPG Maker.

We structure our classes around a combination of informational activities, tutorials, and hands-on experience in our game lab. Our teaching style is interactive and engaging, with plenty of opportunities for learners to interact with each other and with our instructors. We use a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, games, slides, video clips, and discussion, to make sure that all learners are able to engage with the content.

Our main goal is to give our students the tools they need to create their own RPG games, so we focus on practical, hands-on learning. We also believe that collaboration and teamwork are essential components of game design, so we encourage our students to work together on projects and share their ideas with each other.

Day 1 - Students will learn about What makes a great game & overview of game design, How RPG Maker works, how elements of the map work, how to add characters, and brainstorm what you would like in your game
Day 2 - Learn how NPC Characters work and adding them into your game
Day 3 - Learn about adding a Quest to your game and start creating your quest
Day 4 - Learn about adding battles into your game and learn about constructive feedback
Day 5 - Learn how to add music to your game, put the finishing touches into your game and share with your group

At the end of the course, our learners will have created their own unique RPG game, complete with characters, maps, puzzles, and battles. They'll have learned the skills they need to design their own games from scratch, and they'll have a solid foundation in game design that they can build on in the future.
