Students will listen to and discuss two stories from Norwegian folklore: 1) East of the Sun and West of the Moon (D'Aulaires' Book of Norwegian Folk Tales) 2) Why the Bear is Stumpy-Tailed (D'Aulaires' Book of Norwegian Folk Tales) We will identify the following elements in each story: the setting, the archetypal characters & situations, the plot, themes, the conflict, motifs, and more. We will learn about the literary elements that make a story a folk tale or a fairy tale. Students will...
Students will learn to identify patterns in folklore and use this knowledge to further their literary analysis skills.
I am a certified teacher with seven years' experience in teaching public school. I am currently working on my MA in English. I am a homeschool educator of sixteen years. I taught literature classes at a local homeschool co-op. I have taken several mythology, folklore & fairy tale classes. I am currently a literature, mythology, & folklore presenter with Professional Home Educator. I am also a teacher member of the Folger Shakespeare Library.
Some folklore includes mild violence.
