課堂經歷
A logical fallacy is an error in reasoning that renders an argument invalid. Fallacies can be intentional or based on mistaken knowledge. This course will consist of pre-recorded lessons outlining logical and argumentative fallacies and how to identify them in information, media, and arguments. We will also discuss how to dismantle each fallacy and "inform around" each one, which means informing based on verifiable facts and truth. The format of the class will follow this schedule: Week 1: Starting with the basics - Slippery Slope, Straw Man, Circular Argument, Begging the Question Week 2: Ad Hominem, Hasty Generalization, Appeal to Ignorance, Appeal to Authority, Appeal to Pity Week 3: False Dilemma, Causal, Sunk Costs, Equivocation, Non Sequitur Week 4: Red Herring, Tu Quoque, "with this therefore because of this" (cum hoc ergo propter hoc), Bandwagon

Hey there! My name is Emily Kendall. My passion for education is to make it fun and purposeful for each student that I get the privilege to interact with!
**Please note that I recently had a baby, and am taking a short break from teaching regularly scheduled Outschool courses. If you would like to message me, we can arrange a time to meet, or I encourage you to check out my self-paced courses!
__________________________________________________
I am currently a research fellow, earning my PhD in education at the University of Oklahoma. The specialty of my research is to arm students with skills and knowledge to transition from school and into adulthood - no matter what age, it is never too early or too late! I also serve as a military reservist, Lieutenant in the US Coast Guard.
I earned my associate degree in child psychology, then my bachelor of science in education from Liberty University, and then my master of science in special education from Johns Hopkins University.
I teach classes that are based on real-life experience and literature. If a student can connect a concept to an experience, then they are engaging in valuable learning!
For example, my one on one tutoring sessions typically involve the interest of a student (ex. cooking), and my lesson will be constructed around famous chefs/ bakers from history, utilizing math and science skills, even marketing, business, and finance, as these play a role in a career or hobby surrounding cooking.
Please message me with any specific concerns or requests for your child, and let's get started!
