New to Outschool? Enjoy $20 off this class with promocode: CHRISCH20 (New users only) Each week, students will focus on a different fantasy race and class, such as elves, dwarves, and orcs. They will learn a range of topics, including armor, posing, anatomy, shading, weapons, magical effects, ornamental details, fabric, and storytelling. The class is designed to be interactive and engaging, with a combination of step-by-step lessons, interactive design prompts, and art games. I'll be providing personalized feedback and guidance to ensure that all students learn in a fun and supportive environment. The class schedule is as follows: Week 1: Human Knight - Armor Shading ⚔️🛡️ Students will learn how to create realistic metal shading while designing their own knight. They will also learn how to draw hands holding swords in the correct position. (Required Materials: Pencil, eraser. iPad accepted as an alternative medium.) Week 2: Elven Archer - Dynamic Posing 🏹 Students will learn the three common positions of archers so that their archers look authentic. We will also cover the common mistakes that students typically make when drawing archers. Week 3: Orc Barbarian - Muscles and Anatomy 💪 Students will review the muscles and bones of the human body when drawing a powerful orc. We will learn the "4 Tiers of Detail" when designing a character and how to make professional-looking callouts and design details. Week 4: Mini-Project - Weapons and Armor ⚔️🎨 Students will participate in an interactive game where they simulate a battle and pick their own weapons and armor. They will design their own character and present it to the class, receiving personalized feedback and guidance on their work. Week 5: Spellcaster - Magic and Elemental Effects ✨🔥❄️⚡ Students will learn how to create elemental effects such as fire, ice, lightning, and earth. They will have the choice of creating their own spellcaster and learning the difference between dark and light magic. We will also cover hand and finger placement, and how to create elegant spell-casting "Magic Hands." Week 6: Dwarf Cleric - Patterns, Ornamentations, and Detailed Armor 🛡️✒️ Students will learn about form language and create their own custom armor and weapons with intricate details. We will cover the historical Art Deco and Art Nouveau movements and how these art aesthetics influence fantasy designs and our modern world to this day. Week 7: Draenai Druid - Fabric, Patterns, and Textures 🌿👗 Students will learn how to create natural clothing folds and details while creating their own fabric patterns. We will also cover different color schemes and how to choose a color palette. Week 8: Final Project - Design Prompt 🎨📝 Students will collectively create a design prompt and create their own custom character. We will use technology to help us create an original backstory. This simulates what it would be like to work at a design studio or for a client as a professional artist! Everyone will present their design prompt at the end of class, and we will see all the different interpretations. By the end of this class, students will have created a portfolio of 8 different characters while learning a comprehensive set of artistic principles. They will have the skills to continue building their own worlds and designing their own characters. This class is ideal for intermediate artists who are already comfortable with drawing people. Students who are enthusiastic about fantasy books and Dungeons and Dragons will be a great fit for this class. This class welcomes anyone who wants to be a part of a great community of artists who want to build their own worlds and develop their imagination!
