Creating exciting stories is a fun and beautiful art to learn, but it can be difficult to know how to paint your pictures with words in the best way. Join with Harry Potter in the Triwizard Tournament and together we will learn about how to write like J.K Rowling. In this one-time workshop, we'll talk all about how to show, not tell with our writing and how to set a tone with a sentence or two. By the end of this lesson, students will be able to identify and create descriptive language and use it to express themselves in their writing. Students will learn to exchange common adjectives for more descriptive phrases and words.
I have been an English teacher for the past 4 years, and I am an avid reader as well as writer. My bachelor's degree is in English; Creative Writing from California State University San Bernardino. I have read all seven Harry Potter novels multiple times and have used them in lesson plans many times as great examples.
It would be advantageous if the student has read Harry Potter previously, but is not expressly needed.
