課堂經歷
This is a "Hands On" science class that continues the "What is Electricity" series. In this class the students will create experiments that generate electricity which can be measured with the a common voltmeter. This class is split into three sessions, each focusing on a manner of making electricity. Session 1: Battery Power Create a battery from a potato, nail and penny Measure the voltage and current produced from the battery Explore the physics behind battery power Explain rechargeable batteries Explore series vs parallel battery circuits Explain DC Electricity Session 2: Generator Power Explore magnetism and electricity Use an electric motor to generate electricity Explore different ways to power a generator Explain AC electricity Session 3: Solar Power Use a solar cell and flashlight to generate electricity Measure voltage created under different light conditions Explain battery storage of solar power Explain solar power connection to the electric grid Explore solar power generation vs sunlight intensity This is a very hands-on class offering the opportunity for students to perform the experiments themselves and gain skills with electronic tools. High emphasis is placed on safety rules. The experiments are very simple and possible for most young children to perform with minimal adult supervision. To participate hands-on, you must purchase the materials before class. This is available for purchase from the link below or you can bring your own.

Parents:
The experiments in this set of classes are fairly easy for young children, however, please gauge whether it is appropriate for an adult to be present in case the child has difficulty. Sometimes in the group setting, an individual child can feel overwhelmed with simple problems and miss out on a successful experience. I leave it to you as parent to gauge the child's capability to complete the experiments successfully.
供應清單
This class has experiments to do in each session. If you wish to do the experiments yourself please be sire to have the materials available before class. We have partnered with Perfect Package, to provide a full package with all the necessary materials for this class. They stock all items and ship on time. It is highly recommended to purchase the package. Here is the link: http://www.perfectpackageonline.com/product/electricity-making-electricity-hands-on-package/1? cp=true&sa=true&sbp=false&q=false<===== In addition to the package, you will also need a real potato or citrus fruit. ====> If you prefer to source the materials on your own, please be very sure to get the exact materials listed. Class 1: Potato Penny or pure copper brad or nail Galvanized nail ( size 8 to 12) Short copper wires with insulation, preferably alligator clips Multi-meter capable of measuring 12v DC Class 2: 20 to 22 gauge copper magnet wire, also called enameled wire. NOT plastic insulated, NOT floral wire. Rare earth magnets, 3 or 4 of these, they are strong round silver colored magnets something to wrap the wire on about the diameter of a nickle or quarter small piece of fine sand paper, 120 to 240 grit small DC motor voltmeter capable of measuring 12v DC and AC Class 3: small solar panel with connecting wires colored plastic sheets such as clear colored report covers flashlight or lamp voltmeter capable of measuring 12v DC

Electricity has been a big party of my life. As a teenager I was building computer circuits, robots, and discrete electric devices. I worked after school in my Dad's radio shack store repairing everything from radios to toasters to TV's. Through the decades I held on and developed this understanding through hands on experience as well as formal courses.
Perhaps more importantly I have a skill for explaining complex concepts in a simple easy to understand manner and a passion for plain true practical understanding to the next generation. Learning should be deep and fun!
