As a certified teacher, I had experience conducting math interventions in the classroom, but lacked the education on dyscalculia specifically. When my own child started to struggle in math, and nothing seemed to work, that is when my intensive research on math learning disabilities began, and I learned all the things I wish I knew before! Every child learns differently, and students with dyscalculia are also individuals. But they do have some things in common that are known to waste...

This class designed to support unique learning needs for students with ADHD and Learning Disabilities, by being adaptable to the student's interest, and flexible in the material as well as the methods used to introduce new concepts.
Regardless of the age of a math student, they will benefit from visual, concrete, and tactile representations of math. If you have or can get any of the following math manipulatives, they will be of great help. If not, there are online alternatives that we can use. Here are some examples of manipulatives that can come in handy based on the grade-level of material: 4TH GRADE: -colored pencils -colored tiles -pattern blocks -adding machine tape -4 dice -pretend money 5TH GRADE: -snap Cubes aka linking cubes aka unifix cubes -cuisenaire rods -ruler -dice -collections of small objects (buttons, beads, dried beans...) -receipt tape (adding machine tape) -colored markers pencils or pens -colored paper -regular office supplies (paper, tape, glue sticks, scissors) 6TH GRADE: -snap Cubes aka linking cubes aka unifix cubes -centimeter cubes -pattern blocks -square tiles -cuisenaire rods -geometric solids -ruler -dice -receipt tape (adding machine tape) -colored markers pencils or pens -patty paper -regular office supplies (paper, tape, glue sticks, scissors) SEVENTH GRADE: --snap Cubes aka linking cubes aka unifix cubes -centimeter cubes -square tiles -geometric solids -ruler -geoboard and rubber bands -clay or kinetic sand and cutting tools -collections of small objects (buttons, beads, dried beans...) -receipt tape (adding machine tape) -cardboard tubes (paper towel or toilet paper rolls) -colored markers pencils or pens -regular office supplies (paper, tape, glue sticks, scissors) 8TH GRADE: -snap Cubes aka linking cubes aka unifix cubes -square tiles -cuisenaire rods -fillable, relational geometric solids -ruler -angle ruler or protractor -compass -colored markers pencils or pens -patty paper -regular office supplies (paper, tape, glue sticks, scissors)
