In this ongoing class, each week is a brand new adventure! Whether you love to write stories or have never tried it before, this class is for you. The focus of this class is to experiment with new ideas to construct a short story that is as wild as your imagination! Here, we are not worried about spelling and grammar, but IDEAS. Using the "Flash Fiction" or "Postcard Fiction" model, students will be encouraged to focus on one main action to produce a short work no longer than a page. Each...
Students will learn about the elements of a short story and how to construct one on their own. Students will also have the opportunity to improve their craft through class practice as well as both peer and teacher feedback.
I have been teaching ELA, Creative Writing, and Theatre to elementary through college-aged students for over 20 years. One of my greatest joys is to help kids unlock the creativity inside of themselves and get it down on the page for others to enjoy. I find that creative storytelling is an excellent tool for those who are reluctant to write as well as those who already enjoy writing. There are so many ways to learn--why not be creative?
Writing paper and a pencil or pen OR a word processing program on a device. We will be writing in class, so your learner should have whichever tools they are more comfortable using to write with.
