課堂經歷
In this semester long flex course we will travel the globe searching for recipes and trying new foods. Not only will we learn where the country is in the world (with the help of some map work), but we will also learn a little bit about the history of the place or the food we are trying. All recipes will be chosen with ingredient availability in mind. We will not be making any food that requires specialty tools or ingredients. All recipes can be made using common kitchen tools and...
This class will enhance not only their geography knowledge and kitchen skills, but also includes a bit of science, some history, research opportunities and how to give polite responses to others. In the kitchen, they will utilize math skills when measuring. When grading the teacher they will need to use critical thinking skills to deliver a grade and the reason for that grade.
I have been leading Cooking Around the World and Cooking Around the USA daycamps for several years for a youth program at a local community college. In addition, I have a graduate level certificate in International Family and Community (and I love to travel!)
You will get a list of ingredients the week before each class. There will be no items listed that are difficult to find. Any handouts (such as maps) will be provided.
We will be using kitchen equipment such as the stove and oven, knives and other potentially sharp tools and sometimes messy ingredients. Please be prepared to supervise your student in the kitchen. If there are food allergies in your family, please be sure to read the recipe in advance and make any adjustments needed to fit your family needs. If your student feels comfortable in telling about the substitution, that would enhance the learning of the other students.
