This ongoing class is all about sharing our love, knowledge, and ideas about chickens AND putting that excitement into action. Learners and Dr. Tory will encourage each other to try a different chicken themed adventure every week, developing some real-life skill through the fun context of chickens! For example, one week learners may receive a crash course in chicken care, while another week we might be writing and laughing at our own original chicken jokes! Topics include… Week 1 of 9/11/22:...
Dr. Tory owns 9 hens, including some raised from day-old chicks, and others that were adopted as adults. She loves having chickens as pets and also enjoys their eggs. Dr. Tory especially loves being creative with the topic of chickens, which inspired her successful Outschool STEM class: Chicken Coop Conundrum - an engineering design challenge. She created this club in response to learners who asked for more opportunities to discuss and do everything-chickens!
Week 1 of 2/6/22: chicken show-and-share (Learners please bring 1-2 chicken-themed items to share during class) Week 2 of 2/13/22: creating chicken mad libs (Optional - pencil and paper) Week 3 of 2/25/22: pet sitting (chickens and more! (Optional - pencil and paper) Week 4 of 3/11/22: cartoon chicken drawing (Learners please bring drawing paper, pencil, and colored pencil/crayons/markers to class) Week 5 of 3/18/22: chicken comedy (joke writing) (Learners please bring 1-2 pieces of paper and a pencil for writing during class) Week 6 of 3/25/22: all about eggs (Learners please bring 1-2 uncooked eggs, a small bowl to crack them in, napkins and cleaning supplies, and access to soap and water to wash hands during class) Week 7 of 4/1/22: poultry poetry (Learners please bring 1-2 pieces of paper and a pencil for writing during class) Week 8 of 4/7/22: chicken science (behavior & health) (Optional - pencil and paper) Week 9 of 4/15/22: the chicken dance!
