PLEASE WATCH THE ENTIRE CLASS VIDEO (CLICK ON THE PLAY ICON IN CLASS THUMBNAIL IMAGE) AND READ ALL OF THE CLASS DESCRIPTION BEFORE SIGNING UP ( : PREREQUISITE FOR ADVANCED MODELING Students are required without exception to complete the classwork for the “Blender 3D Modeling - INTERMEDIATE - Weekly Ongoing Class”. An invitation from the instructor is required for students to join this class. HOW THIS LIVE CLASS IS RUN In this class students will follow along with the LIVE demonstrations for each lesson, so they can get any assistance they need during class. Students are encouraged to ask questions when they don't understand what is happening in the lesson. A new assignment is offered each week. When a project is not finished during class, students have the option of using a homework VIDEO to complete that same project for extra practice outside of class. They can also start on the homework VIDEO during class and work at their own pace instead of going at the same pace as the LIVE group instruction while still getting the same support as other students. They will be required to follow and complete their assignment with accuracy first by following all steps in the order they are given (building skills), and then to be creative and rework their assignment and add new ideas afterwards (applying and creating with skills). CLASS DESCRIPTION - ADVANCED This is an ADVANCED level class, please see the PREREQUISITE above. Students will model a new project each week. We will cover a wide variety of themes focusing on props, machines, vehicles, and architecture. Modeling approaches such as smooth shading, subdivision surface modeling, and boolean modeling will be approached with additional training on UV mapping. More complex materials including procedural and PBR materials will be applied to models. Tutorials for materials, lighting, and rendering are also available for students who want to do independent work outside of class. PUNCTUALITY POLICY This class is very process dependent, and students progress as a team through lessons. Students are required to show up on time or early to class ( : CLASS ROTATIONS There are 45 project weeks below in the weekly curriculum rotation. Students don't have to start at the beginning of the rotation. Most lessons have multiple parts such as "part 1,2,3, and 4" in their title. If the student’s first day of class starts with “PART 2” in the title for example, they will get the “PART 1” lesson from the previous week as a finished file so they can continue where the class left off. The rotation repeats every 45 weeks. STUDENTS CAN START ANY TIME IF THEY MEET THE PREREQUISITE. The act of 3D modeling incorporates math and design skills through understanding the basic vocabulary of 3D objects (vertex, edge, face), learning to manipulate objects with a variety of tools, and using scale, measurement, and rotation to position those objects in the x, y, and z coordinates of the 3D scene.

This class uses Blender, a free open source software that you can download to your home computer. No account is needed and no sign-in is required. It is completely safe to use and is child and teen friendly. Blender is used by a variety of Outschool teachers. For more information go to www.blender.org. All content will be taught through the Outschool Classroom through a combination of videos and downloads.

Completing classwork in the "Blender 3D Modeling - INTERMEDIATE - Weekly Ongoing Class" is required before signing up for the ADVANCED class. This class is INVITE ONLY.

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS Blender must be installed and fully working on your computer BEFORE you enter your first day of class. After signing up you will receive instructions on how to download and test blender. If Blender does not work on your computer you will get a full refund for your first day of class. REQUIRED STARTING THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS: -Computer: Mac or Windows laptop or desktop (CHROMEBOOKS AND TABLETS DON'T WORK WITH BLENDER). -Blender Software (must be installed and tested on your computer by the start of your first class). -3 Button Mouse (has a mouse wheel and a left and right mouse button, LAPTOP TRACK PADS WON'T WORK). SUGGESTED Number pad 2nd monitor connected to your computer for viewing the lesson

I have been teaching art (animation, illustration, sculpture, painting, and digital art) to elementary and teenage students consistently for over 25 years. My teaching includes 4 years as a public school teacher, 18 years as the owner of Artmuuv (Previously Creative Art Network for after-school, during school, and summer programs) and 12 years as an artist in residence (mural painting focus). I've also been designing video tutorials since 2008 for a large variety of mediums.
I love what I do and that passion drives my ongoing learning. I’ve studied traditional art through Cornish College of the Arts, Western Wa University, and a variety of other classes.
