課堂經歷

美國等級 10 - 12
Course educator, Morgan Jae is a mother of two and certified birth worker (i.e. doula) who trained extensively and gained her certification through the Mama Glow Doula Homeschool program in early 2022. As a certified doula, she employs personal experience, academic research and field expertise into her practice of providing birth education, lactation support, and virtual support for birthing people throughout pregnancy, birth (active labor) and immediate postpartum periods. In this course, we will also engage with birth professionals (Midwives, OBGYNs, Doulas, Pelvic Floor Therapists & Policy Advocates) to understand the breadth of birth and support needed. Additionally, she has partnered with Midwest based birth centers and villages to teach aspiring teen doulas the foundational aspects of birth education as they prepare to enter certification programs. The program supported students in understanding the anatomy of birthing bodies and becoming knowledgeable in supporting expecting families before, during, and after birth.
- Notebook/Notepad
- Writing Utensil
- Google Drive/Classroom Access
- One-page handouts will be provided at the start of each week, giving a brief overview of upcoming topics.
Politically and culturally sensitive topics will be discussed each week of class with some topics being heavier than others. We will routinely approach highly sensitive topics including state-sanctioned violence, police brutality, criminality and systemic oppression. The course educator has undergone significant Diversity, Inclusion and Sensitivity trainings to properly support students in understanding and processing this information. Sessions where tough topics will emerge will be preceded by a content warning.

Google Drive/Classroom/Suite Apps: Google Drive & Classroom will only be used during our allotted class time to access relevant course content.

Quizlet: Students will utilize Quizlet to review important terms.

Spotify: During Weeks 4 & 5, students will act as birth doulas and collaborate with the instructor to create birth playlists that would support various clients based on predetermined factors such as age, race, and religious beliefs.

YouTube: Students will engage with historical videos and interviews on relevant topics. Links will be provided in a curated playlist.

The 30 minutes - 1 hour of week outside of class are not to be spent working within Google Classroom/Suites, but to read & engage with the next session's assigned reading.
