Find out what makes raptors different than other birds, learn to identify common North American songbirds, listen to bird calls, and look at pictures of birds from around the world!

Meet a live chicken while learning about the features of a bird. Check out a feather collection, bird bones, nests, and eggs from the science shelf. Find out how to create a bird habitat in your backyard and a species checklist in your nature journal. Learn cool facts about eagles, owls, hawks, and falcons while creating an optional raptor mobile craft or recycled binoculars. Students will learn the features of a bird and gain an introduction to birdwatching while having the opportunity to ask questions and share their own bird observations. Each week will feature a different group of birds. Accompanying supplemental art projects and nature exploration activities will be provided.

Each week will be independent of each other, and learners may join at any time. No prerequisite classes are required.

I am teaching this class because I am enthusiastic about sharing my passion for birding with students! I researched bird calls, tracks, and bird characteristics extensively while writing the bird section and species checklist for my book, "Ohio Wildlife: A Coloring Field Guide." I have a master's degree in Ecological Leadership and Education, and an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies and have taught classes about birds at nature centers, Raptor Festivals, schools, homeschool groups, and art centers.
