課堂經歷

At the start of the first class, I will welcome all of the learners and give an overview of the course. I will then transition to asking to questions to get everyone thinking using the Google Slide add on Pear Deck. "What are you planning to do with your video editing skills?" "What kind of videos do you plan on making?"

Next, I will go over importing video files into OpenShot and look at all of the different basic windows and the features that are associated with each section, We will go over trimming, moving, selecting, deleting, and adding fades, transitions, and slow motion in the first class.

Throughout the class, students will be challenged to remember different features and shortcuts in OpenShot with periodic multiple choice quizes using Pear Deck.

At the end of class, students will have a completed basic video and will be encouraged to continue to practice throughout the week.

In the 2nd week we will focus on the question: How do I cut down my editing time in half? This class will focus on shortcuts and using the video editor software efficiently. We will practice these shortcuts on the video files that will be provided in class. Throughout the class, students will be challenged to remember the different shortcuts in OpenShot with periodic multiple choice quizes using Pear Deck.

In the 3rd week we will focus on adding external features to a video. We will learn how to add music and adjust the volume with a fade in and out, and we will learn how to add text and pictures to a video with transitions. I will also share resources of where to find music you are allowed to use for videos that already have copyright approval. Again, throughout the class, students will be challenged to remember different features and shortcuts in OpenShot with periodic multiple choice quizes using Pear Deck.

In the 4th week we will focus on the question: What happens when you have two similar clips and you want to combine them as though it were one? We will focus on how to do this in the class. We will learn how to add two clips that I provide together to make a smooth transition with the video and accompanying music. Throughout the class, students will be challenged to remember different features and shortcuts in OpenShot with periodic multiple choice quizes using Pear Deck.

For the last week, all learners will participate in a final project that will showcase as many of the skills they have learned in the OpenShot class and can on a topic that the student chooses. Learners will all post their final edited movies in the classroom for feedback and so all of the other learners can comment and be inspired by what is possible with some basic video editing skills.

Teaching Material and Style
After each class, I will be asking the students questions to find out their answers, goals and interests. Because this is an a 4 week FLEX class meeting every week and because video projects can take a long time to finish, I expect the same students to keep working on their own projects during the days in between the classes. I aim to have a balance between learning and having fun.

Since my experience video editing is mostly in iMovie, Movavi and OpenShot I am able to give instruction and guidance on these software programs. If you are looking to learn with a different program, you can find other teachers with those offerings.
This is a beginner level course so no experience is required to join.
