The battle of Antietam during the US Civil War is the single bloodiest day in the history of American warfare. This course will look at the events leading up to the battle--why did Robert E. Lee decide to cross the Potomac? It will look at how the "missing orders" gave George McClellan a huge advantage. We'll examine the battle in detail and how it should have ended the Civil War. Then we'll look at the Emancipation Proclamation, why Antietam was critical for it and why the Emancipation...
