三年級數學：幾何與分數簡介

In this course, students will dive into the fun and visual world of solving problems that will require them to think critically about polygons and fractions. Students will be taught the basic concepts of polygon attributes, partitioning polygons into equal parts, and how to identify unit fractions both within polygons and on a number line. These concepts are the stepping stones for polygons and fractions according to 3rd grade content standards and will better prepare them for more advanced problems in the future. At the end of this class, students will also have two intro to measurement classes where they will be able to also make the connection between unit fractions and the fractions on a ruler. In each class meeting, students will be given many opportunities to share out their thought process and interact with classmates to solve problems. Each class is also designed using the gradual release model which provides students with high support from the teacher in the beginning of the class and students are able to preform tasks independently by the end of the lesson. Following is a schedule of the first 14 weeks of class topics:

1. Open/Closed Shapes and Polygon Names AND Types of Angles in Polygons
2. Classifying Types of Triangles AND Classifying Types of Quadrilaterals
3. Partitioning Shapes into Equal Parts
4. Fractions on a Number Line
5. Equivalent Fractions with Shaded Figures
6. Comparing Fractions with Same Numerators and Same Denominators
7. Fractions Larger than 1 Whole
8. Fractions on a Ruler and Identifying Measurements
9. Measuring Objects (From Zero and Not From Zero)
