I have done this activity with my 3rd-grade students in a public school setting.  They loved making connections in the book to real life passengers.  We used BookCreator on the iPad to show their creativity.  When they presented, this helped with public speaking as well.  As someone who actively participates in Toastmasters, I feel that the earlier someone starts speaking in a group setting, the easier it will be when they get older.

Students will be expected to read the required chapters assigned during each class.  They are broken down into 2-3 chapters each night, which is about 20 pages.  They will also spend some time researching their passenger/crew member to present the last day of class.

**Students are not expected to read before the first class**

Students will be provided with information to help them start their research project.  They can use the website that is provided, or use the internet to look for additional, interesting facts about their passenger/crew member.
